LGBT Bar NY Foundation Receives New York Bar Foundation Grant for 2025

LGBT Bar NY’s Foundation Free Walk-In Legal Clinic Enriched by The New York Bar Foundation

The New York Bar Foundation grant program assists non-profit organizations with law-related projects across New York state that facilitate the delivery of civil legal services to those in need, improve the justice system and the law, enhance professional competence and ethics and increase public understanding of the law.

“Supporting the Foundation helps preserve a bedrock principle of our government – that everyone is entitled to equal access to justice,” said the Honorable Cheryl E. Chambers, Foundation President. “Without these vital programs that the Foundation and other charitable organizations support, justice would look very different for those who can afford an attorney than for those who cannot.”

LGBT Bar NY recently received a grant from The New York Bar Foundation. The grant will be used to support our free walk-in legal clinic program. Our legal clinic provides services, particularly for LGBTQ+ individuals, with particular focus on supporting vulnerable populations such as the trans community, amid the current climate of uncertainty they face.

"Our free legal clinics provide a vital lifeline for LGBTQ+ individuals, especially those from the trans community, who face unique legal challenges and barriers to justice. By expanding access to comprehensive legal support, we are empowering countless New Yorkers to navigate complex issues—from housing to immigration—with dignity and confidence. This work is not only about black letter law; it’s about affirming the rights and humanity of a community too often marginalized. We are deeply grateful to the New York Bar Foundation for making this essential work possible through their generous support."

— Anthony Perrotto, President of the LGBT Bar Association and Foundation of Greater New York

The Foundation recently allocated more than $668,000 in grants to ninety-five programs across New York State. Lucia Whisenand, chair of the Grants Review Committee, noted “The non-profits that we support help make justice a reality for millions of people throughout New York State.”
