FAQs

Q: When does the membership year begin and end? A: Our membership year follows a fiscal cycle from July 1st to June 30th. If you join mid-year, your membership dues will be prorated and will be active through June 30th of the current cycle.

Q: What are the income-based membership tiers for individuals? A: Our sliding scale ensures that membership is accessible to legal professionals at every stage of their career. Dues are based on your annual income:

  • Tier 1: Under $30,000: $40/year
  • Tier 2: $30,000-$50,000: $55/year
  • Tier 3: $50,000-$75,000: $95/year
  • Tier 4: $75,000-$100,000: $135/year
  • Tier 5: $100,000-$150,000: $165/year
  • Tier 6: Above $150,000: $190/year

Note: Law students and recent graduates not yet admitted to the bar may join for free. First-time attorney members are also eligible for a 10% discount on their initial dues.

Q: Is my membership dues payment tax-deductible? A: LGBT Bar NY is a 501(c)(6) professional organization. While dues are not typically deductible as a charitable contribution, they may be deductible as a business expense. Please consult your tax professional.
