Internships

The LGBT Bar Association of New York (LeGaL) offers internship opportunities for students interested in learning more about the legal profession, nonprofit administration, and LGBTQ+ advocacy. Our internship program is designed for individuals who want to gain exposure to the work of a bar association and to issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community, while providing meaningful support to our programs and operations.

Interns may include undergraduate or graduate students and do not need to be law students. We welcome applicants from a variety of academic backgrounds who have an interest in law, public service, nonprofit work, or LGBTQ+ issues.

Interns primarily assist with administrative and program support, and may also have the opportunity to observe the Association’s weekly legal clinic and other programs, subject to confidentiality requirements. Interns do not provide legal advice or representation.

Typical responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with clinic administration

  • Helping with data entry, scheduling, and program coordination

  • Supporting outreach, communications, and special projects

  • Educational programs and observational opportunities as appropriate

Internships are unpaid and may be structured to satisfy academic credit requirements, depending on the intern’s institution.

LGBT Bar NY is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment and encourages applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
