The LGBT Bar Association of Greater New York ("LGBT Bar NY") offers internship opportunities for students interested in learning more about the legal profession, non-profit administration, and LGBTQ+ advocacy. Our program provides meaningful, hands-on exposure to community legal services, bar association operations, and issues affecting LGBTQ+ New Yorkers.
Current Opening: Law Student Clinic Intern (Spring Term)
We are currently accepting applications for a Law Student Intern to begin in January.
This position works directly with the Association’s frontline legal services operations and volunteer attorneys:
Weekly Commitment: Approximately 4 hours total per week.
Clinic Attendance: Mandatory attendance at our weekly drop-in legal clinic on Tuesday evenings (in-person or hybrid as scheduled).
Key Responsibilities:
Conducting client intake and screening.
Assisting volunteer attorneys with clinic coordination and recordkeeping.
Providing administrative support, follow-up communications, and data entry for clinic operations.
Compensation & Academic Credit: This is an unpaid internship. We are happy to coordinate with your law school to ensure the position satisfies requirements for academic credit, pro bono hours, or public interest fellowship funding where applicable.
General Internship Program
Beyond our specialized clinic intern openings, LGBT Bar NY periodically hosts undergraduate, graduate, and law students interested in public service, civil rights, and non-profit administration.
General Responsibilities May Include:
Assisting with clinic logistics and program administration.
Supporting association communications, membership outreach, and special projects.
Helping coordinate continuing legal education (CLE) programs and networking events.
Observing Association programming, panels, and community initiatives.
